Played the game for a little bit and it is not bad, obviously shops etc are still missing but i like the idea. How many different special words are there currently? I think i found maybe 10 but i know that more exist via screenshots and hints. I would love to have a dictionary which lists special words that you found with their effects and ones that you havent found as ???. Right now it feels a little overwhelming to remember and build all words.
One issue i noticed is that the next level animation briefly pops up when you game over, which i think is unintended.
As a german, i would love to see a localisation as i dont recognize many words that score and could maybe help with that.
One last thing: How does the scoring work? Does each letter have its own score which gets added together or is the value set for each word?
There’s 42 special words in the playtest currently! I don’t want to spoil them all since I want people to discover them on their own. I’ll definitely be adding in the dictionary though!
I just uploaded a new version of the playtest that fixes the weird animation glitch. The book was in front of the game over screen due to a weird error I made with the render order of it. The book was way too high up.
The game also doesn’t move forward if all players lose now, so the book will never show up if the game isn’t being played.
Each letter has its own score which gets added together. I should probably communicate that in-game somewhere, I just thought that it wasn’t as important as everything else.
Not sure whether the display beyond 5 digits is just broken or the calculations too. dont think i was scoring that much, even though pair+pear is quite good. (got it to +150 fire and +200 points) Maybe a win screen would be nice.
Can you not use a word twice in the same run? if that is the case, i would love a list of used words.
Oops, I think the display broke because the text isn’t resized. The calculations should be the same as the target score shown on the page.
I replaced the auto-resizing text I had in the current game with a better third-party one, the bug should be fixed now.
The word in the score preview (before the 10 x 3.24) will turn red when you’re about to play a used word. I’ll make it more clear in-game by making it say (USED) before the word, while still turning red.
Hi. Played your game for about 15 minutes. I loved the UI and how the game feels in general. But unfortunately I wasn't able to figure out what the game actually wants from me. How do I succeed? I get that I should form words, but it's unclear to me how to get many points. Like I have a word by default by the game and then I can maybe come up with 1 or 2 words that contain same letters as the starting one. Then I'm stuck.
In the description you say "Form words by dragging letters in and out of the word box to score points!", but ingame I wasn't able to drag them out of the box. Where? How? They stay in the box no matter what.
I might actually be stupid, but my advice would be for you to make an ingame tutorial that will teach player essential mechanics and gameplay loop.
Also note I'm not native English speaker, so there's that friction with forming words.
There is a game on mobile that I played which was about making words from letters, I don't remember the name. There were very few letters to play with on every level, like 4 to 6 letters. And it's already so hard to wrap your head around these letters and remember which words happen to have them and in which order. In your demo, you have like 20-25 letters sitting in the bottom? They are also unsorted, which makes you going through whole list looking for that letter C. I guess greatly reduce the number of available letters.
Also if this advice is of any use - provide direct questions for playtesters to make it easier for them to help you, maybe a google form?
The game seems promising though, I shall come back later

HOW TO PLAY:
Form words by dragging letters in and out of the word box to score points!
Insert the held letters at the bottom of the game into the word box to add letters to the box.
Draw letters into the bottom right draw pile to discard them out of the word box. Click on the draw pile to draw a letter to your held letters!
You can also reorder letters in the word box to form words.
Use the hint to spell special words, special words will give you Word Cards.
Word Cards are like jokers, they all have a unique effect and are essential to getting enough points to beat the round, you’ll earn most of the points in the game from them.
Try to find combos between the Word Cards!
